7 Ways to Make your Car Safer to Drive

SHARE:

Increase the life of your vehicle by taking some easy precautions

Well, humans are great at a plenty of things, but if we delve into the way they drive, it’s something they aren’t brushed up on. Accidents take place as our reflexes can sometimes be too steady for the need. Well, the truth hurts. Can you leave insurance out of this? Off course not. You might have heard an English proverb “A stitch in time saves nine”, so consider applying it before kicking off the engine as a driver.

Beyond the shadow of a doubt, your safety while driving car is of utmost importance. Here, we are going to share top 7 ways to make your car safer to drive not only for yourself but for the people sharing the road with you. Alright, I’ll get onto it.

#1    Keep a car safety kit in the boot

Well, that’s something you must keep a close weather on. Before hitting the road, make sure you have got safety kit loaded with enough tools in the boot. You will never know when and where you are going to need these tools. Alright, imagine yourself standing on the verge of the highway in order to patch up the tyre or to dig snow and ice away from the drive tires on a road covered with slippery snow and ice and you have got no tools on you? That’s nasty, isn’t it?

In order to keep safe against this, you get to keep flares, warning signs, jack, spare tire, tire re inflation canister, tire patch kit, a first aid kit, snow chains, folding shovel, kitty litter, and an air horn. Most of them will easily fit in the boot so nothing is to worry about the spare space. Vola!

#2    Keep Your Vehicle in healthy condition

Yes, that’s probably the thing needing huge attention. Having a car in well-maintained and perfect condition is no less than a blessing- no two ways about it. Just making sure that your car is in healthy condition is of utmost importance for your safety. That said, just keeping super necessary things on your checklist will get the job done. That’s not a big ask, is it?
The main things you must give a once over to when it comes to maintenance of your car include oil checks, water level, electrics and tyres check. And checking of tyres is something you need to keep a close eye on. Just ensure that the tyres are fine-tuned to get away with the skidding or getting flat on the road. In case the tyres of your buggy are worn-out, there’s a risk of losing their grip on the wet roads and that’s the least thing you would want. With that, it’s multum in parvo to check the air pressure in the tyres regularly. Look out for the underlying issues like loose belts, broken hose or faulty battery would act like a magic bullet in this case.

Sometimes, your car engine gets older and not performing well, that’s why going for its repair, purchasing a reconditioned engine or used engine from a good engine supplier not only saves your vehicle, but also save your money.

#3    Set up a monthly schedule for check-ups

It would be fructiferous to set up a schedule every month for the necessary check-ups. Change the oil, check the water level, check out if all of the electrics/ lights are working properly, make sure that the thread depth on the tyres is at least 1.6mm and see if the battery is in fine fettle. That’s not a big ask, I guess. For this reason, schedule check-ups after regular intervals of time so that your car remains in healthy condition and you encounter no problems on the road.

#4    Take Extra Precautions in Bad Weather

While you are on the move in bad weather, do take some extra precautions specifically if you spend a moment just talking about the icy weather. Just drive slower and clear ice, snow and condensation completely from your windscreen and all windows before setting off. On that account, make sure that the tyres have a thread depth of minimum 3mm to be secured in the snowy weather. Also, don’t forget to keep anti-freeze in the radiator and windscreen water bottle and keep an ice-scraper and de-icer on your vehicle throughout the winter season. Right after that, place a winter driving kit in case of any unforeseen situation. Once you have got these things on you, you are all set to drive in snowy weather.

#5    Always wear your seat belt

Before kicking off the engine, never forget to buckle up until you have reached the destination. It’s rightly said that the safety is number one priority and you must apply this before you put the keys in ignition. Wear your seatbelt and also making other people buckle up who are sharing road with you would be great step towards the safety. No kidding!

#6    Rear-view backup camera installation

Rear-view backup cameras are another very important thing for your security while driving. No, ifs, ands, or buts about it. You can take the services of these cameras to see what’s going on behind and beside the car. This, not only allows you to keep safe while driving but also aids in parking the car. This will be another big move towards your security while driving.

#7    Extra Airbags installation

There is no denying the fact that airbags may make your car a bit heavier and lessen its speed, but where would you place their service when it comes to your safety? Alright, can you leave insurance out of this? Absolutely not.

Well, airbags are structured in a way to provide the passengers with additional protection in case of any crash or accident. Though seat belts are silver bullet in this case, but airbags have got their own importance as they fully inflate in less than a second, becoming aerated up to 160mph. That’s something drivers pin their hopes on. Yes, you heard it right.

Most of the cars are equipped with a driver airbag and the front seater airbag. Side airbags and curtain airbags are also common. Still and all, install extra airbags in your car to make it a way safer to drive.
