What are the Dos and Don'ts of mobile application development?

Mobile application development has taken over almost all the spheres, whether it's personal live or professional. The entire game of mobile app development was initially targeted to the personal level of computing, but now the business world is also discovering its advantages. Businesses around the world are looking at the advantages of mobile app development for their people, partners, and prospects. They can even provide better customer services with the help of apps.

But it is not as easy as it sounds. It is because developers are required to work in environments and systems which are based on a hybrid infrastructure that may be made of both legacy systems and of those which are latest ones. So, it has become a difficult business to build applications for the rapidly growing range of smartphones and tablets. With no proper knowledge of variations, things will most likely to fail.

At this point in time, what happens most commonly is a mistake and in the worst case scenario, more than one mistake that is enough to destroy the reputation of a company. Mistakes often occur when solutions are not incorporated in an appropriate manner or things like security and operation monitoring are undervalued. New developers may be aware of their skills but it's always not possible that they are also aware of what works and what doesn't work.

Let me help you prepare a list of what you as a developer are supposed to do and not to do in your ambitious mobile application development project.

1. User-experience is one of the primary aspects to be considered. Because mobile devices are a totally different thing from computers, they are required to follow a different approach while building the software. The first and basic difference is the input type. Today's phones are navigated or operated with help of touch screen and thus your mobile application development should happen accordingly.

2. If you are incorporating sensors into your app, It should be intuitive and intelligent. When it comes to adding the basic features such as display reorientation for pictures or some real-time update with respect to changing locations to the app, developers need to have a logical understanding of things.

3. In case of a requirement, there are third-party apps that can be used in your app to integrate the mapping or traffic information along with social media buttons.

4. Do not forget that today's phones are highly personal devices and thus they can easily be used to power users from enterprises. A well-thought app is one that boosts productivity and executes the entire computing operation in a minimum number of taps. The right treatment for every small feature or function will enhance the power of app and make it distinctive.

5. Mobile devices are quick as they today use the most advanced network connectivity which many of the PCs and laptops are still not using. While performing an operation on these devices, users want to make things happen at the same moment. Real-time is the way out. Always make an app that quickly responds to the commands of users. If your app is operationally responsive, it is lovable and if it is not, users have all the right to uninstall it and find the alternate. The real-time access is quite necessary when it comes to building an app for customer relationship management and business intelligence system. A traffic app is supposed to deliver real-time information to users or it is worth of no use.

6. If you know programming or coding, it does not mean you create apps aimlessly and submit them to the app stores. First, you need to identify the need for an application and then find it out whether or not a strong user-group exists for it. Without considering all these things, your hard work of hundreds of hours is going to be a waste.

7. There are mostly tens of apps already available for the idea you have planned. But it should not discourage you. If you have a different approach to conclude it, yours can be the original app. You can learn from existing apps by observing their positives and negatives and improve them in your mobile application development. The more you try to improve the features and functionalities of your app, the more you make it unique and original. That's the only idea.

 8. Many developers keep saying that mobile phone apps have touched every facet of lives, but it is not true. Not all the spheres of lives do need mobile apps, do they? Mid or back-office services will hardly need the help of mobile apps as they cannot be completed in the desired pace without the help of desktop-level machines. Many industries cannot even imagine surviving without desktop-level computing operations, so please leave them alone.

9. If the app is going to handle sensitive corporate information, paying proper attention to governance issues and standing to scrutiny are worthwhile. There is a strong requirement of a high level of security and handling the governance issues in the right manner, especially for the platform that has been popular for malware attacks.

10. As I already told, mobile and desktop are two different technologies. So, do not make an app similar to desktop software. You should make an app that is purely for smartphone and other hand-held devices.

Once you learn these dos and don'ts, you will succeed to plan an app that has chances do well.
